After we were traveling with a camper on our last road trip through Ireland and Northern Ireland , this time we drove from accommodation to accommodation by rental car for a week. In our article we want to introduce you to these cozy and absolutely typical Ireland accommodations .

These include B & Bs (bed and breakfasts) with lots of plush and hearty Irish food, as well as two hotels.

We spent a week in a rental car in the south-east of Ireland, also known as ” Ancient Southeast “. There are many cultural attractions but also wonderful nature and beautiful coastlines to discover.

But now to our Ireland accommodations. We have listed them chronologically for our travel route.

1. BRAMBLE ROCK IN GLENDALOUGH, COUNTY WICKLOW

One of the best Ireland accommodations in the southeast is the Bramble Rock, translated as Blackberry Rock. It is ideally located for visiting the Glendalough monastery or exploring the Wicklow Mountains . We checked out the monastery and also did a great hike to Upper Lake .

The accommodation is very well maintained and cozy. Ann the hostess is super warm and always available for a chat.

We stayed in the “Larch” room on the first floor. The Irish B&B has a total of 4 rooms. For breakfast you can get muesli and fruit from the small buffet. But there are also eggs in various variations or a typical Irish breakfast with sausages and white and black pudding.

Tip : We can recommend the Wicklow Heather Restaurant for the evening , which is only a few minutes away from the accommodation. If the weather is bad, the restaurant even offers a driver service. Of course, it’s free of charge.

2. HIBERNIAN HOUSE GUESTHOUSE IN KILKENNY CITY, COUNTY KILKENNY

The Hibernian Hotel in Kilkenny is a four star hotel located directly at Kilkenny Castle. Next to the hotel there is the associated guesthouse for guests on a tight budget. We stayed here.

The guesthouse is very basic, but ideally located. Breakfast is served in buffet form in the hotel across the street. In the cozy bar there is often live music in the evenings.

Kilkenny is a super nice town. It is worth spending two days here. And be sure to see Kilkenny Castle from the inside too!

3. FAYTHE GUESTHOUSE IN WEXFORD CITY, COUNTY WEXFORD

The B&B is very cozy, especially on a rainy, stormy evening like ours. The rooms are typically Irish with heavy curtains, pillows and carpets. The bathroom was quite small, which is often the case with the old buildings.

There are pubs and restaurants within walking distance of the guesthouse, and a large SuperValu (Irish supermarket) is around the corner. We just made ourselves comfortable in the room in the evening and didn’t go outside when the weather was like that.

From here you can, for example, take a trip to the Irish National Heritage Park , where you will be brought closer to 1000 years of Irish history. The Hook Lighthouse should also be worth a visit.

4. BEACH HAVEN HOUSE IN TRAMORE, COUNTY WATERFORD

Tramore is a popular vacation spot right on the coast, especially for families. With a great beach and endless arcades for the kids.

We were just passing through and stayed at Avery and his wife’s lovely B&B. Both of them are at your disposal with tips on the highlights of the area.

Tramore is also a good starting point for cycling the 46km long Waterford Greenway from Waterford to Dungarvan.

Be sure to ask Avery about his selfdriving route along the Copper Coast, he has written everything down and will be happy to give you a copy. And for breakfast you should definitely try the pancakes – super delicious!

As one of the top Ireland accommodations, the Beach Haven House not only offers B & Bs but also a hostel and holiday apartments.

5. BELLA VISTA HOTEL IN COBH, COUNTY CORK

Cobh (pronounced Koff) is a wonderful town, with steep streets sloping down to the coast and colorful houses – almost like in San Francisco. And a huge church that towers over the city. There is also a lot to discover and do here.

Cobh was the last port the Titanic docked before her fateful voyage to New York. In the Titanic Experience you can learn a lot about the fate of the 123 passengers from Cobh and about the Titanic itself.

Or you can take a boat trip to Spike Island , Alcatraz in Ireland. Founded by monks, then a military base and later a prison – there is a lot to learn here.

In Cobh we stayed at the Bella Vista Hotel – a lovely family-run hotel with super nice staff. The in-house restaurant is a Chinese restaurant, which was very popular with the locals, but we preferred to eat Irish in town.

Our attic room was spacious and nicely decorated. In the evening you can have a cozy whiskey in the bar. In addition to the hotel rooms, there are also holiday apartments here.

6. IRELAND ACCOMMODATION TOP TIP: CELTIC ROSS HOTEL IN ROSSCARBERY, COUNTY WEST CORK

At the end of our trip we spent three nights at the Celtic Ross Hotel in a wonderfully dreamy region of West Corks and one of the best Ireland accommodations on our trip in the southeast.

Here we had a little time to digest the many impressions of the last few days and just let us drift.

The family-run hotel is relatively large with 66 rooms, but is still very personal and makes you feel good. The restaurant offers excellent food and we celebrated Martin’s birthday here. In the evenings there is often music and dancing in the bistro.

There is also a lot to discover in the area. For example, we did a whale watch tour with Whale Watch West Cork from Baltimore .

The tour lasts 4 hours and you should either be seaworthy or take travel tablets with you. The sea can get pretty rough. Depending on the season, you can even see humpback whales here!

Now in September we saw dolphins, but with a lot of luck it could be a minke whale.

In addition to whale watching, it’s worth simply cruising through the super narrow streets in your car and just stopping where you feel like it. There are lots of cute fishing villages like Glandore or Union Hall.

You can do the cliff walk at Warren Beach or practice golf with pitch and putt . Golfing in Ireland is a lot of fun anyway and is not as stuffy and expensive as in Germany.

There are also the Dromberg Stones (similar to Stonehenge in small) or the Baltimore Castle to visit. There is really a lot to experience here.

CONCLUSION TO THE IRELAND ACCOMMODATIONS

The Irish are just an incredibly nice and open people. Everywhere you are greeted with “How are you” and even if it is just an empty phrase, you can quickly get into conversation about it.

And you will also experience this Irish friendliness in the Ireland accommodations – the guests are looked after with a lot of devotion. The rooms are often a bit plush but always comfortably and cleanly furnished. So you can make yourself comfortable in your room in bad Irish weather.

We found both types of travel, with campers and with overnight stays in Ireland B & Bs, absolutely worthwhile. You just have to have done both times.
